It's update time. How do we top Bryan writing his name?? Well, for starters, he also wrote Tyler and Tabby's! This week Bryan has been working diligently with his therapists, even though it causes him pain at times. The therapists tell us that he works through the pain and has never said no. His range of motion is slowly but surely getting better but his left side is still a lot stronger then his right. He usually writes with his right hand, but he's now writing with his left because that arm is looser. His speech therapist is working on having him eat actual food, which he CAN do but he doesn't always seem to want to.

We've also been noticing more of a sense of humor coming through. The other night Bonnie was visiting and held the phone while Bryan talked with Erin. Erin was asking him questions and he would answer with, "Yeah." She said, "Are you just going to keep saying yeah?" He said, with a smile, "Yeah." We also heard from one of his therapists that she was asking him to bend his leg. He wasn't so she went bent down to do it and he said, "No, wait." She sat up, and bent down again and he said, "Wait." This happened about 5 times and she finally asked him what he was doing and he said, "Messing with you." Erin had asked Bry if he knew her name. He responded, "Miss Sweaty Pants." Bonnie made sure to thank him for the new nickname for Erin and Bryan smiled.

At this point, we are so happy to see him smile, joke, answer questions correctly, and interact with his children since we didn't know if we would see that again. It's those times that make the difficult times easier. Knowing the harder he tries, and fights through the pain, the stronger he will be. With all the ups, there are "downs" but we take them where we can. Though he smiles, it's not the same smile we know to be Bryan's. Though he jokes, the humor is different, though he interacts with his children, he isn't the dad they have known. We picked this song specifically for one sentence. "Part of where I'm going is knowing where I'm coming from." Nobody can say where he will be down the road, but one thing is for certain...he has come far, and we make sure to remind him of that every single day.

Happy Veteran's Day. To everyone who has served, or is serving, in our military: Thank you for all you do. God bless our troops.

An update, hooray! Wow, Stow Family, I have to say, this is really profound stuff. I remember Dr. Geoff Manley at SF General saying in a news conference that he had no way to predict or estimate Bryan's eventual degree of recovery... and Manley is one of the leading experts in the world on TBIs. I feel like Bryan's current status is an indication of this. But I can tell you guys know all about this by the way you phrased your update post. I really feel for Bryan's kids - they've been through a lot and it can't be easy. So Tyler & Tabby, I know everyone is thinking about war veterans today, and rightfully so, but here's a shout-out to you guys. In a sense you've both become veterans in your dad's fight for his life, and in that service you have seen things that most kids will never have to see. Life is not always fair, but no matter what happens, you've got a beautiful family behind you. And that's worth a lot.

Cheers, Stow Family, and thanks as always for a very revealing update. You're kind to share your continuing story with the world. Oh, and Go Bryan! Messing with therapists is a time-honored tradition. You've got to do your part! :)

Bryan you are the best! I think it's so funny that you are messing with the PT lady. I never meet you before But I know I would have love to hang out with you. You always seem to make me smile. You are so funny. Even as you are working through the most difficult time in your life you are making jokes and enjoying life. You are the best. Never ever give up. We are here thinking & praying for you and your family.
*Remember lefties do it right*

For the family: I truly believe that your Bryan will heal 100%. He will be the son you knew, the wonderful brother you knew, The great uncle he was, The caring and loving father to the two wonderful children that should have never had to deal with such an event. He will be the old Bryan. It will just take time. With each and everyday Bryan is getting stronger mentally and physically. Enjoy the time you have with him. He has come a long way and he has some more to travel but in the end he will be ok. I am deeply sorry that this happen to your son/brother/dad.
Sending lots of love your way

You truly continue to be such an inspiration. You work through the pain in therapy, you use humor and laughter to help get over the "hard" times and you are getting stronger every day!! To be able to play with your kids, talk with them, visit with other family & friends is truly such a great thing to hear. I am filled with such joy and smiles for you.

My family & I continue to pray for you. For your recovery and strength, courage and guidance as well as love & patience.

Dear Bryan and Family,

I am a recovering Brain Injury Survivor. I fell on the back of my hear 1/8/2010 on the Ice from a standing position. I did enough damage where I am unable to work again in the formal sense. I still have a long journey ahead. I am looking forward to being creative and advocating for Brain Injury awareness and a whole lot more when the timing is right. You can get through this with all the love and support I see you have at your side. I am sorry for the experience you and your children and family had to endure. But my "Faith" is strong and know you will all come through this. Please know that Good always cancels out "evil" G-d Bless, Nadine and Family

We're all still thinking of you Bryan. Saying prayers for U and your family often. I still have my candle with ur ribbon on the front and it says, get well Bryan. We look forward to the updates and we look forward in seeing improvements with U. We did see your son throw out the first pitch on Giants opening day. Even though I'm a Dodger fan, I was still able to see this most touching event. It was also nice to see U on the big screen with your Mother. Your FOREVER in our thoughts and prayers. Take care, Bryan Stow...

Hello to the Stow Family and supporters,
I woke up this morning thinking about Bryan Stow, and how senseless and hurtful acts of violence have impacted you. I decided to search online for Bryan's health update and found this wonderful website. Thank you for letting us all know how Bryan is doing. I just want you to know that you have another supporter and I send my love and encouragement for your daily struggles and wins. :o)
I love seeing the videos and listening to the songs you post for Bryan. You've never given up and that is truly love in action. I will continue to look for fundraising events and other ways to support. I have donated through the website, and know that the money goes to a VERY worthy cause. God bless and know that everything will be alright. With love, Gretchen Vogel
(p.s. if you need help, I live in Cupertino and would be happy to lend a hand- just let me know how!)

Dear Bryan and Family,

We are students in the On Track program, a program for adults with brain injuries. We are all learning how to cope with our brain injuries, just like you are doing today.

We have traveled the same rocky road that you are traveling, DON’T GIVE UP! You are not alone, have hope. We have watched each other improve in areas that we never thought possible; we are now reading, writing, talking and finding our way through this new life. Keep trying no matter how long it takes.

From our experience we have learned that the road to recovery is tough, but it is worth the fight. The brain is incredible! Believe in yourself.

“The brain is programmed to create and we are all but children of the universe” – Eric, On Track student.

Sincerely,

The On Track Program

Hey Bryan, I didn't mean to get this behind on checking in. Greetings from the Lone Star State, and in particular, good ole HOT West Texas. Our Spring certainly didn't last long, and here we are into Summer. Have already had hundred degree plus days here and no rain. But thankfully, the tornadoes have passed us by.

It was sooooooo cool to read about your son on opening day at your home park. Good for him. He's like his daddy no doubt.I know all of your family as well as you are most proud of that day. What a wonderful memory for all time.

My son, who is with AMR in Jackson, MS, is back on the ambulance after his arm injury. He really got tired of being confined to desk duty. Hopefully the arm is 100 per cent and he doesn't injure it again any time soon.

Keep up with your therapy and know we all support you and your efforts. God's still driving your ambulance and things are moving along according to his plan. Just keep the faith.

Gentle breezes on the wings of the Angels atop the West Texas winds and to God in heaven. Georgana

Hi Stow Family,
I look forward to new updates on Bryan, no matter when you get the chance to post them. It doesn't take a website update to help me to remember Bryan's struggle, and to pray for him and all of you. Keep strong and carry on. Good job, Tyler!! Keep Bryan's story in the media to remind the public to pray, or to just be better human beings.

God bless the Stows!
