Bryan continues to amaze all of us! We love that he has a sense of humor again, even with a look he can make us all laugh. We hope his feeding tube can be removed soon since he can now eat ground food. He seems seems to like it, except he still seems to not like peas, which Erin couldn’t agree more..
We have always said that this couldn’t have happened to Bryan for nothing and that some good has got to come from it. For us, it brought our family closer together than ever before. For the bigger picture we have wanted to use Bryan’s story to raise awareness about fan violence and brain injuries. Our family has learned more about traumatic brain injuries than we ever thought possible. The more we learned, the more we realized just how little is known about it. Dr. Manley has stressed to us about the lack of funding when it comes to TBIs and is a big advocate on making it known. Through a support group we found out about a walk in San Jose on March 31st to support the Brain Injury Association of California. The date of the walk is one year to the day Bryan was hurt. There’s no way we could NOT do this. Our team name (so cleverly thought of by Tyler) is “Get Stow-ked”. Tyler, Tabitha, Jacque, Bonnie, Erin and other family and friends are doing this for Bryan and all other TBI survivors. If you would like to support our team, the link below will show you what to do. If there is a walk close to you, you can even start your own team and walk for Bryan or a loved one. As always, we have appreciated all the support from everyone!

We would love nothing more then to have Bryan come home. We know, eventually, it will happen. Even with his continued progress and determination, we also know it won't be happening anytime soon. He requires around the clock care, and with his medications, Gtube and lack of initiation him coming home just isn't an option for anyone, most of all him.

We try to start and end our posts with Bryan stories or funny things Bryan has said or done. His most recent is telling us he wants to grow his hair long again. If you look through the pictures on this site, you will see some of him with his long, beautiful hair. We thought maybe he wouldn’t remember saying that or would change his mind but each time he’s asked he said he’s going to grow it out. If he does in fact do this, we’ll have to hold back and not tease him during the growing out phase where it will start to look like a mullet. Our rocker is back!

I'm glad to hear Bryan can have real food now! It's been a slow road with Eric and food...but we're getting there. He actually picked up the fork and fed himself a bite of green beans one day!!! Bridgett and I were so excited! Thanks for sharing Bryan's progress. It feels like we're driving down the same road in different states :) Cassandra

Hi Bryan, I hope you're soon enjoying your favorite foods again. I think March 31st should become an international day of peace. I love that your family is participating in the TBI walk. Awesome name, Tyler. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and my love and best wishes, always.

Bryan is doing great - he knows to spit out the peas! Give him some chocolate!!!! Kidding aside, great update.

I'm excited about the walk and and love Tyler's name choice...couldn't be more perfect. Can't be up there but will definitely support it!!!

Rock on baby - my "For Stow - Bryan's Songs" playlist is my favorite!!! Humbles me and exhilarates me at the same time.

Love, hugs and continued prayers ALWAYS...
Jeannie

P.S. If you have ANY Stow support wristbands left...would love to buy up the rest. I've worn them from the beginning and as the writing wears thin, I replace them and need more!!!

Hi Bryan & Family,

What a great way to continue to not just help Bryan yet others who suffer from the traumatic brain injuries. It is unbelievable how all of you continue to help and support not just Bryan, yet others. Such a true inspiration of your true love for Bryan other humans. Thank you for this.

Well, I can't wait to see the mullet photos. It should be interesting.

I'm with Debra in Honolulu - it's just nice to know that Bryan can express himself and show facets of his personality, things he couldn't do when he was unconscious and fighting for his life. As this update makes clear, Bryan's condition is still serious and he has more healing and therapy to do, so I'm just really happy to read about moments where Bryan gets to be himself. That's a special gift right there. This family has been through a lot, and moments like these are definitely to be savored.

I'm also happy to hear of the walk in support of BIACAL. I read just about everything Dr. Geoff Manley said publicly while he was treating Bryan at SF General last year, and I was struck by how this preeminent expert in the field couldn't make predictions about the outcome, in part due to how little research had been done on these kinds of complex brain injuries. So raising money and awareness for this cause is absolutely vital. Patients like Bryan are trailblazers along one of medicine's least-explored frontiers.

So cheers, Bryan. We know you didn't ask for any this, but you make a fine ambassador nonetheless. Keep up the good work.

And thanks, as always, to the Stow family for this latest update.

Your news is wonderful! Your family is an inspiration to all! In case you haven't been told - if you put good sneakers on Bryan and put pillows behind them to keep his feet from "sloping" down - that will help prevent drop foot - I was flat for only 2 months and have a slight drop in one foot - barely noticable!! God bless you all!!!

Such wonderful news that Bryan still keeps improving. I love the fact the he wants to grow his hair out...you go boy! I donated to Tabby and Tyler for the walk and I wish everyone on Team Get Stow-ked all the best on the walk. I did the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk a few years ago and it was the most amazing, life affirming event I have ever been a pat of, and I am sure Bryan's team will feel the same way when they do their walk. I think of Bryan and his Brigade every day and send much love, prayers, and good thoughts always to all of you! NEVER GIVE UP and keep fighting Great Hodge! Much love from Forest Ranch, CA, Tina.

Ann-wishing you a very happy Mother's Day. I am sure days like this are incredibly bittersweet, but how wonderful that you have all your strong and wonderful family around you to help with the tough times. I think of The Great Hodge and his family every day and continue to send you all love, support and strength. Of course we all saw Tyler throw out the first pitch and it was a beautiful site! I know one day we will see Bryan at a game, doing the same thing. Until that day, never give up hope!!!! Much love from Forest Ranch, CA

We're all still thinking of you Bryan. Saying prayers for U and your family often. I still have my candle with ur ribbon on the front and it says, get well Bryan. We look forward to the updates and we look forward in seeing improvements with U. We did see your son throw out the first pitch on Giants opening day. Even though I'm a Dodger fan, I was still able to see this most touching event. It was also nice to see U on the big screen with your Mother. Your FOREVER in our thoughts and prayers. Take care, Bryan Stow...

Update-4/30/12
Hello to the Stow Family and supporters,
I woke up this morning thinking about Bryan Stow, and how senseless and hurtful acts of violence have impacted you. I decided to search online for Bryan's health update and found this wonderful website. Thank you for letting us all know how Bryan is doing. I just want you to know that you have another supporter and I send my love and encouragement for your daily struggles and wins. :o)
I love seeing the videos and listening to the songs you post for Bryan. You've never given up and that is truly love in action. I will continue to look for fundraising events and other ways to support. I have donated through the website, and know that the money goes to a VERY worthy cause. God bless and know that everything will be alright. With love, Gretchen Vogel
(p.s. if you need help, I live in Cupertino and would be happy to lend a hand- just let me know how!)

Dear Bryan and Family,

We are students in the On Track program, a program for adults with brain injuries. We are all learning how to cope with our brain injuries, just like you are doing today.

We have traveled the same rocky road that you are traveling, DON’T GIVE UP! You are not alone, have hope. We have watched each other improve in areas that we never thought possible; we are now reading, writing, talking and finding our way through this new life. Keep trying no matter how long it takes.

From our experience we have learned that the road to recovery is tough, but it is worth the fight. The brain is incredible! Believe in yourself.

“The brain is programmed to create and we are all but children of the universe” – Eric, On Track student.

Sincerely,

The On Track Program

Hey Bryan, I didn't mean to get this behind on checking in. Greetings from the Lone Star State, and in particular, good ole HOT West Texas. Our Spring certainly didn't last long, and here we are into Summer. Have already had hundred degree plus days here and no rain. But thankfully, the tornadoes have passed us by.

It was sooooooo cool to read about your son on opening day at your home park. Good for him. He's like his daddy no doubt.I know all of your family as well as you are most proud of that day. What a wonderful memory for all time.

My son, who is with AMR in Jackson, MS, is back on the ambulance after his arm injury. He really got tired of being confined to desk duty. Hopefully the arm is 100 per cent and he doesn't injure it again any time soon.

Keep up with your therapy and know we all support you and your efforts. God's still driving your ambulance and things are moving along according to his plan. Just keep the faith.

Gentle breezes on the wings of the Angels atop the West Texas winds and to God in heaven. Georgana

Hi Stow Family,
I look forward to new updates on Bryan, no matter when you get the chance to post them. It doesn't take a website update to help me to remember Bryan's struggle, and to pray for him and all of you. Keep strong and carry on. Good job, Tyler!! Keep Bryan's story in the media to remind the public to pray, or to just be better human beings.
