With our visiting schedules set to make sure someone is with Bryan every day, we always get a big smile and a “what are you doing here?”, but he may be tired and quiet. We have noticed that when there is too much going on around him, he starts to shut down. He is continuing with therapy, but still requires help doing everyday things.
We remind him of funny stories all the time, hoping the memories are still there and some are. Thankfully he still has a sense of humor so if he doesn't remember a story, he still finds it funny. We have also noticed a slightly different personality. He has a sweetness and politeness about him that results in a lot of "I love you's" and kisses goodbye.
We read all of your comments (thank you!) and noticed that some of you have downloaded the songs we have posted. We have too and now have Volume 1 and Volume 2 of Bry’s website songs. We remember why each song was posted and what was going on at that time. Some are harder to listen to (Train’s Calling All Angels when Bryan had to have emergency surgery to remove the boneflap), some make us smile (the Beatles Here Comes The Sun when Bryan went outside for the first time and said it was “magical”) and some make us laugh (Twisted Sister I Wanna Rock when Bryan decided he wanted to grow his hair long again). Through these postings and our songs, we realize just what a road we all have been on.
Bryan has sleep apnea, which is a common occurrence with TBI so he has been sleeping with a CPAP machine, which he says keeps him awake. It also rubs the bridge of his nose and continuously scabs. We have asked for an alternative so hopefully that will come this week. He was experiencing abdominal pain which they think might be diverticulitis.
Bryan's memory is still a mystery. At times we are surprised when he remembers certain things, but then there is a lot he doesn't remember. We like to remind Bryan about when him and Erin locked a 5 year old Bonnie in her bedroom while Dave and Ann were at work. Bonnie being Bonnie, climbed out her window and waited on the front step until someone came home. Not only that, she waited in her footie pajamas. When we tell Bry that story, seeing his smile is heartwarming and hearing his genuine laugh is truly music to our ears! When we see that smile, we know we can face anything.

thank you so much for the update. I smile as you tell us about Bryan remembering things and smiling or laughing. What a complicated thing a brain injury is but we in south Florida continue to pray for Pryab and praise God for Bryan's making baby steps towards his recovery. Your never-ending support and love for him is to be commended. He is blessed to have a good family and all who help. May God Bless you all. Get better, Bryan ! ! ! !

Hi Stow family, hi Bryan. Normally I have something intelligible to say but tonight I'm not blessed with that quality. Mostly I just hope that Bryan is tranquil and at peace with his situation. I can see from reading these updates that you, Bryan's immediately family, have progressed and are slowly adjusting to this new reality. But it's still hard for us onlookers to gauge Bryan's comprehension and sentience. I can certainly understand how he becomes overwhelmed and "shuts down" when there is too much stimuli. I wish it were different, but I'm glad you still see glimpses of the true Bryan when he smiles and laughs. And we must always remember that the future is still unwritten, and Bryan is alive and healing. I hope I get to meet you some day, Bryan Stow. I want you to prosper in your own time. Cheers, Stow family, and thanks again, as always, for the selfless update.

I'll admit I don't wear my Stow band constantly, but I keep it handy as a visual reminder so I can pause to think of Bryan. Oddly enough, on 7/21 I was heading out to see a crazy old film featuring famous wrestlers from Mexico "Santo y Blue Demon Contra los Monstruos". Santo "Silver Mask" and his sidekick, Blue Demon "Blue Mask" take on a great group of monsters from Dracula to Cyclops to Frankenstein to sexy vampire ladies in lingerie. Except for the vampire ladies, all the other guys' costumes are pretty moldy and worn.

For some reason I decided to wear a Brian Wilson "SF Misfits" orange tshirt. I put on my Stow band.

Now I see today that you posted your update on 7/21. I thought that was kind of cool.

Plus, the movie was hysterical, and featured a live guest appearance by an SF wrestler, who, when he isn't wrestling, is a Fireman for the City.

Thank you, as always, for the updates.

Thanks's for another heartfelt update, Stow family. Whoever said 'laughter is the best medicine' wasn't kidding. So glad you can find humor during your daily visits. Progress may be slow, but considering all Bryan has endured, it's a miracle that there's been progress! Stay determined Bryan! I, and so many others, are pulling for you, praying for you all.

HI Bryan and Stow Family,

This is a great update. It is heartfelt, like the all of them have been and lets us know that Bryan is doing good. Continuing with therapy, hearing stories and laughing are all good things. Knowing how far Bryan has come, this is so good. hearing him laugh, seeing him smile at a story that he recognized or enjoyed again must be so wonderful for all. I keep praying and hoping for Bryan and the recovery to continue. I along with so many others are pulling for Bryan and his continued recovery.

PS - I hope that the rest of the Stow family are taking care of themselves as well.

YWow, your update on Bry made me cry, it really touched close to home. My Significant Other, Arthur, had a major hemorragic stroke 4 years ago, and he too has a polite sweetness personality to him now, also with lots of kisses and I love you's. You guys are so fortunate to have the closeness of family, that is extremely important in his recovery. God bless you all. Your always in our thoughts and prayers....Keep up the good work Bry.

I'm so happy to read that Bryan is getting better everyday. I thought came to me about his sleep apnea. Would he be open to acupuncture? Tracy Cone's office is downtown on Pearl Alley and she is absolutely wonderful. You sit next to her and your blood pressure goes down. 831.419.7167 / http://tracycone.com/

Hello Stow Family!

Thank you so much for keeping up this blog & keeping us all informed of Bryan's Progress!

I knew Bryan from Seagate & then when we both lived on Bean Creek Drive, I rented the downstairs in the big house (that sounds funny).

I remember seeing him with his 1st baby at Best Buy (just in passing) - he was sooo proud to show him off.

My family & I attend St. Joseph's in Capitola & I was so happy to still see his name in the bulletin this past Sunday - under Prayers needed.

Much love to you all & big HUGS all the way around!

Dear Stow Family,

I am so grateful for your updates, thank you. This may sound silly but Brian inspires me so much (bear w/me there is a point to this), I am doing my first Half Marathon (I promised myself I would do one before I turn 45) next January and I am getting suggestions from all my friends and family for music to listen to while I do this. I will be choosing one of those songs just for Brian to help me get across the finish line. So just know that on Jan 20 there will be a 42 yr old Mom of 2, running the Tinker Bell Half Marathon at Disneyland thinking of Brian-even if only for a song...

Thank you for sharing the beautiful update. You all are awesome and continue to amaze me. It's refreshing to read that Bryan is able to recall memories; and, I hope that he continues to regain his memory. Recently I heard on a news story there is a new procedure in a hospital in Texas that uses a laser to remove scar tissue, and this surgery helped heal children with brain damage. It was an interesting and touching piece; and, incredible to see the medical advances.
Your song choices are always the best picks and I appreciate them. They remind me of Bryan, along with anything SF Giants related; as well as, the color orange in general. =-)
Peace, love, hugs, and smiles from Santa Cruz~

Re:SLEEP APNEA...please look into Dr. Avi: www.aviisha.com

I have no connection with him, but Dennis Prager had him on his radio talk show a while back, and it sounds like Dr. Aviisha has a fantastic product which Dennis uses and find very comfortable and easy to use. He could not tolerate the usual CPAP unit either.

Thank you for this update, I am in constant admiration of the Stow family!!!

Prayers and love continue!...Deb

Good afternoon Bryan!

Just dropping in to let you know that you are on my mind... and always in my prayers. I hope your days are spent getting better and resting along the way. I hope if you are getting a chance to go outside a bit it's not nearly as intolerably hot as it is down here in LA, and i hope you are looking forward to the leaves changing and the wonderful things that come with summers end and the begining of autumn.

MUCH love to you and your strong loving family! Keep up all your good progress and know that you are never ever far from our thoughts.

with much love and Blessings.

Hi Bryan,

I'm also thinking of you. As Rachel said, I hope that you've enjoyed some time outside in weather much cooler and less humid than its been here in LA.

Mostly, I just wanted to say "hi" and as always, send along my admiration and love for you and your entire family.

I have been following this site since the beginning, and have just figured out how to post myself! Bryan, what happened to you and your family is such a terrible commentary on what people are capable of - and your resiliance and faith and strength have left me in awe, and made me understand that we cannot choose what happens to us, but we can choose how to deal with it.

I will continue to follow your recovery, and pray for the day when you can go home to your family. You may not have set out to be an inspiration - but you certainly ARE one! Thank you.

Hey Bry,
Just want to stop in and say Hi and let you know I was thinking of you and your family. Hope you are enjoying the weather. I have been loving it when I can get out. This damn thing that's called work is keeping from enjoying it more. I work with a bunch of uptight, ass kissing people and it just making me look at the clock so I can get the heck out. Today I was so bless to walk out with the sun still up and it was baking on my pale skin.
So Halloween is coming up.. I wondering what you are going to be. I'm thinking you should be a rock star since you are a STAR to me.
FYI we would love to know how you are doing .. SO ask one of your sisters to post an update. How are you doing on PT/OT ? what skills are you working on now? please let me know. Sending lots of LOVE your way

Well, as usual reading the updates brings tears to my eyes. Still wearing the Stow bracelet, still praying that God watches over Bryan.
On Sundays, when I see Ginny C. at Holy Cross, we do a little Bryan hand holding thing.
At the end of last season's bowling, at our banquet, Trudy F. gave us a Bryan update.
I continue to be amazed at how much love has grown from such a tragic event.

Stow Family - Each and every one of you is amazing! I, too, have followed these posts from the start. Incredible determination, strength and love have been shown by all of you. And tremendous sacrifices and effort have been put into making sure that Bryan is cared for and that the visiting schedule is complete. You have all given so much.

One quick question - do donations to this site help you family members with your day-to-day expenses? You each still have households to manage, and I'd like to know that you are getting some assistance. Forgive me if this has been addressed previously, I may have simply overlooked it. Or if this is too personal, I apologize.

My thoughts are with you all!

Love to you all.

Looking every day for news and update on Bryan. Hope all is ok and there are no further setbacks. My heart sinks when I look on the site and the header is still the same as it was for the "2 year posting". I'm sure people have not flagged in their prayers and concern for Bryan's recovery. Please let all of us know how he is doing and, hopefully, there is good, sustaining news. Bless you all.

I just wanted to wish Bryan, Dave, and any other Stow Family dad's a Happy Father's Day. I didn't say this in my initial post because I admit to just being plain happy Bryan was home but I completely and utterly agree that the Dodgers (and any other MLB team) should and easily could be donating a whole lot of money. As someone else said, it is not about blame but compassion and doing the right thing for someone who was inexpressibly, horribly wronged. Sending hugs and best wishes always to all of you Stow Family.

Thank you for the updates! I listen to Bill Carroll on KFI here in So Calif, and appreciate the dedication he has shown to keeping all of us informed on Bryan's progress. MLB and or SF Giants or LA Dodgers should be helping this family to return Brian to the center that was helping him. The family insurance is running out but If these teams can pay players what breaks down to $100,000 or more PER GAME, they should be able to get together and help Brian Stow get the very best care possible! That doesn't mean they have to admit any culpability. They should do the RIGHT and MORAL thing to do and set an example to other Big Business. The good press would benifit them more than the money Brian needs.
I'm ashamed for MLB, LAD, and SFG right now.
I don't have much but I'm making a donation!

To Bryan and his loving family: You are often in my thoughts and prayers. Although the attack and repercussions are sickening, reading the kind words from people across the nation (and around the world), gives me hope and serves as a reminder that there is more good than bad in this world. Bryan, you and your family are inspiring; you are all representatives as to what goodness & bravery are - you bring out the compassion in all of us and the realization of what is truly important. Stay strong.

Hello..
So glad that Bryan is HOME...it will seem like a huge undertaking, but I promise each day will get easier, and you will find in the long run, it is easier to have him in the next room than in a facility...there are many, many programs, especially with his disability, that are available for him...please check with your local social services programs, they will lead you in the right direction, and don't take no for an answer..there is help, and caregiving help for free as well...WELCOME HOME BRYAN!!! There is NO place like HOME...
HOME
When a person gets hurt in your stadium, it would be kind and right that the host should help. It is what courtesy is all about. Hey, it wasn't the Dodgers' fault, but it happened in their stadium. You'd think the Dodger players could fork out a fraction of their millions. Even the Giants' players could help with the costs. A fancy "Welcome Back" celebration doesn't pay the bills. Talk is cheap. I guess we have to rely on the working man, that doesn't make the millions. We are our brother's keeper.
Where do I send money?
God bless you brother,

Bryan,

You should be so proud of the progress you've made, it's really unbelievable. You've come so fantastically far- the strides you've made are nothing short of astonishing. I can't wait to see how much more tremendous progress you make, and I believe, with a little help from your family, friends, and the man upstairs, absolutely anything and everything is possible. Wishing you the best- you're an inspiration to millions upon millions of people out there.

I wanted to personally invite Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and savior. Jesus is the Great Physician. Only the power of the living God can restore you whole and healed. I don't know your faith, but if Jesus could bring you back, whole and healed, would you accept him into your heart? What if it were true? All the miracles He preformed on the sick and broken? Would you believe it was possible for you.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
HOME
I wish insurance companies were more understanding! I do have one suggestion - have you considered looking into a PACE program? It's for people over 55, but given Bryan's disabilities he may qualify for an exception. You can look it up on the Internet; PACE is a program designed for seniors which provides an Adult Day Health Center for socialization, primary care physician, rehabilitation therapy, medications, transportation, home health care aides, and a number of other benefits. Given your geographical location, I would recommend On Lok's program - as I said, the programs are really designed for seniors, especially those who want to remain in their own home rather than going into a nursing home, and although it's for people over 55, I think they do make exceptions from time to time. At any rate, it's just something that could be looked into. I work at a PACE facility, and I plan on joining when I retire and am eligible!!!
